Didn't they used to have debating teams where moderators would make you switch sides afterwards? So one had to be able to convincingly debate both sides of a question. Seems like a good exercise to bring back.
Yes, I did debate competition in high school as a member of the Future Farmers of America. A six-person team holding a meeting. One of us was always designated the anti-voice and another the pro-voice regardless of the topic. Since we wouldn’t know the topic beforehand, it always involved the willingness and ability to disagree or agree onstage no matter how you felt in private.
